Slice Classic Cola

Launched in the United States in January 2025, Slice Classic Cola is produced by Suja Life. The cola contains approximately 1 g of organic cane sugar per 100 ml, corresponding to about one tenth of the sugar content commonly found in mainstream colas. Additional sweetness is provided by stevia. The cola features pre-, pro-, and postbiotics, kosher salt, and organic juice, and is guaranteed to be free from high fructose corn syrup. That’s all grand. What the ingredient list is missing, however, is kola nut, leaving open the question of whether this is even a cola at all.

The advertising campaign ties the new Slice to its 1990s past, even though the two incarnations are unrelated.

The product forms part of the Slice range relaunched by Suja Life and is a reinterpretation of the original Slice brand introduced by PepsiCo in 1984. The first product in the original series was Lemon Lime Slice, introduced to compete with 7 Up and Sprite in the United States. The Slice line later expanded to include a wide range of fruit and citrus flavors. A Cherry Cola Slice was produced between 1986 and 1988, while a standard cola variant was never part of the original lineup.

The original Slice was primarily marketed in the United States, but the brand was also introduced in India, where it continues as a juice series under the name Tropicana Slice. PepsiCo discontinued the Slice brand in the United States between 2010 and 2015. In 2018, New Slice Ventures acquired the rights to Slice in the United States and Canada and relaunched the brand as a low-sugar soda range sweetened with organic fruit juice. The assortment was gradually expanded and was joined by Slice Classic Cola in January 2025.

The new Slice approaches taking market share through 1990s nostalgia, appealing directly to fans who still remember the original Slice.
