Papa Kola

Probably the only cola ever to be based on chlorophyll, Papa Kola was developed as a beverage intended to neutralize strong food odors, particularly garlic associated with döner kebab, which is a very popular fast food in Germany. The drink contained chlorophyll-based compounds and caffeine and was marketed as a green-colored cola. Papa Kola was launched in spring 2015 and remained on the market until December 2017.

Papa Kola formed part of a broader product concept developed by Jan Plewinski and Roman Will from Bremen, Germany. The founders gained wider public recognition after appearing on the German franchise of the TV show Dragon’s Den (Die Höhle der Löwen) in September 2016. Contemporary reviews from multiple sources stated that the chlorophyll-containing drinks actually performed as intended by neutralizing garlic breath after meals.

Papa Kola was produced by Papa Türk GmbH, a company founded in Bremen in October 2013. Shortly after Papa Kola was discontinued in December 2017, the company changed its name to Lecker Produkte GmbH, and the Papa Türk product range was rebranded under the name Kuss-Brause. The company ceased operations in the summer of 2020.
