Mitsuya Craft Cola

One of Japan’s major beverage companies, Asahi, is best known for its beer and soft drink brands. In 2022, the company joined Japan’s growing craft cola trend with the launch of Mitsuya Craft Cola under its long-established Mitsuya brand.

While there is no official definition of “craft cola,” the term typically implies the use of unprocessed or minimally processed ingredients. This includes natural sweeteners and a general avoidance of highly processed additives such as high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Despite this, Asahi’s Mitsuya Craft Cola uses HFCS as its main sweetener.

The cola is notably high in sugar, containing around 12 grams per 100 ml—higher than the 10.6 grams found in standard Coca-Cola.

As of 2025, Mitsuya Craft Cola appears to be difficult to obtain. It seems to be sold out on major e-commerce platforms. Interestingly, the product also seems to have been launched in Mongolia in 2025.

Considering its ingredients it might be a stretch to to call Mitsuya Craft Cola true “craftmanship,” as they boldly claim on the label. Nonetheless, it is interesting how large corporations are tapping into Japan’s niche beverage trends.
