Fatdane Cola

The Danish microbrewery Fatdane states that its “Fatdane Cola is the first of its kind in the world,” referring to its status as an organic cola made exclusively from natural ingredients. This claim is obviously not true. In Denmark alone, certified organic colas such as Økola and Naturfrisk Cola have existed since the 1990s. Fatdane Cola was launched in 2022.

Fatdane Cola is, however, certified organic, in line with the rest of the company’s soft drink portfolio. The brand is produced by the microbrewery Fatdane, which was founded in Copenhagen in 2015 by Brian Hougaard, who previously worked for 13 years at Carlsberg Breweries. The first sodas from the brewery were released in the summer of 2016.

The company began exporting to Northern Europe and North America shortly after its establishment, but when the COVID-19 pandemic affected international trade, export activity decreased and the company increased its focus on the Danish domestic market.
