Costa Rica Cola

Germany’s first Fair-Trade cola was launched in 2006 and is produced by El Puente GmbH under the name Costa Rica Cola. The drink is sold mainly through fair-trade and organic retailers.

El Puente is Germany’s oldest Fair-Trade organization and a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Founded in 1972, the company began with handicrafts and later expanded into food products from the Global South. The cola was developed in line with this focus on fair trading conditions.

The drink is sweetened with raw cane sugar from Coopecañera R.L., a cooperative of small farmers in Costa Rica that operates under Fair-Trade principles, ensuring stable prices and community support.
