Chek Cola
Winn-Dixie is a supermarket chain headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. Founded in 1925, it currently operates just over 200 stores across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The chain offers several private label brands, including the soda brand Chek.
The Chek brand, introduced in 1965, is available not only at Winn-Dixie but also at sister chains Bi-Lo and Harveys, which share the same ownership. Chek offers one of the widest assortments of private label soft drinks, with over 20 different flavors.
In 2016, some of the Chek sodas were relaunched as “Chek Real Sugar,” made with 100% real sugar instead of the usual high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This decision followed a survey showing that one-third of customers preferred soft drinks made with real sugar and wanted to reduce their consumption of additives.
As part of the relaunch promotion, customers could sample Chek Real Sugar products at Bi-Lo, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie locations from July 1 to 3, 2016, and share their impressions on social media using the hashtag #ThrowBackaChek. The Real Sugar series included Chek Cola and three other soda flavors, though these sugar-sweetened variants do not appear to be available anymore.
A traditional Chek Cola contains around 11.5 grams of sugar per 100 ml, which is higher than the 8 to 10 grams found in most mainstream colas.
In addition to the regular Cola, Chek also offers Zero Calorie Cola, Vanilla Cola, and Cherry Cola.
