Caleb’s Kola
Caleb’s Kola was a short-lived product from PepsiCo. It was introduced in late 2014 and dropped again in April 2017.
The cola was owned and distributed by PepsiCo and formed part of a limited portfolio of craft sodas that also included the Stubborn Soda line. A central feature of the craft soda range was the use of Fair Trade Certified cane sugar. In April 2017, a supplier error resulted in the use of beet sugar in certain batches of both Caleb’s Kola and Stubborn Soda. The mix-up did not affect food safety or product quality, but the affected products were pulled from retail. Replacement products were announced but were never delivered, and the sugar incident marked the effective end of Caleb’s Kola.
Retail distribution was limited to Costco warehouses in Maryland, New York, Virginia, and Washington, DC. The product was also listed online through Amazon and Walmart prior to its withdrawal.
The name Caleb’s Kola refers to Caleb Bradham (1867–1934), who in 1893 developed the beverage that later became Pepsi.
