Aydin Umutlu from Hamburg, Germany, founded Ali Cola in 2012 as a means to raise awareness of the growing racism in not just Germany but throughout the World. His creation was a socially conscious soft drink in six different skin tones that were identical in taste.
“Different outside, same inside. Like people,” as Aydin Umutlu described it.
In 2017 Ali Cola won the Red Dot award for its through and through brilliant product, product design and marketing. The jury gave this statement:
“[…] Everything is part of a single outstanding idea that celebrates human diversity and equality. ALI COLA has emerged as a clear, entertaining and attention-grabbing statement for more tolerance.”
During the corona pandemic Ali Cola found itself in financial hardship and Aydin Umutlu failed to find investors who could secure the production. In 2020 he tried to raise €100.000 through crowdfunding but only managed to raise 2.185. Sadly, this meant the end of Ali Cola.
