Alba Cola
Alba Cola was launched in September 2018 by The Caledonian Cola Company. The idea originated when Chris Ewing, a Scotsman living in Paris, saw the popularity of regional colas in France and decided Scotland should have its own.
The original version was released in glass bottles with both sugar and sugar-free options, using spring water from the Cairngorms and heather extract. Heather is a prominent and iconic plant in Scotland, often associated with the Scottish Highlands, making it a fitting ingredient to emphasize local identity. The initial packaging featured a sheep logo and was produced at the Start-Up Drinks Lab in Port Glasgow.
In November 2019, just before St. Andrew’s Day, Alba Cola was relaunched in cans, initially with only the sugar version. A sugar-free version was introduced later. The new design featured a unicorn, Scotland’s national animal.
Alba Cola was sweetened with sugar, and had 20 % less sugar than major cola brands. It has been sold in cafés, bars, independent retailers, Co-op stores, and on Amazon.
Last social media activity was in January 2023.
