Adelholzener Alpencola
From early 2013 until late 2019, Adelholzener Alpencola was produced by Adelholzener Alpenquellen in Bavaria, Germany.
The producer is based in Bad Adelholzen in the German Alps, where mineral springs had been used for spa and health purposes since the 19th century. In 1907, the springs and facilities were acquired by the Catholic order of the Merciful Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul. Bottling activities developed from this setting and expanded during the 20th century. Today, Adelholzener operates a modern bottling plant with around 700 employees. Ownership remains with the religious order, and profits continue to support its social and charitable work.
The cola contained 4.6 g of sugar per 100 ml. Sweetening was supplemented with cyclamate, saccharin, and acesulfame K. This resulted in a sugar content well below that of mainstream colas, which typically contain around 10–11 g of sugar per 100 ml.
Over the years, Adelholzener has made several attempts with different cola variants. In addition to Alpencola (2013–2019), the company produced Adelholzener Cola Lemon from 2019 to around 2020, followed by Bio Cola Mix for a short period from 2020. Under the revived Primella brand, Primella Cola Mix was produced from 2023 to 2024. The only stable cola variant has been Adelholzener Cola Mix, which was already in production by 2004 and continues to be produced today.
