Macarn is a line of organic mixers by the Danish Naturfrisk Group. The brand has been around since 2016 but it was not until July 2024 that a cola was added to the line.
It is a hint of chili that ads the spice to Macarn Spicy Cola. I find it to be working surprisingly well as the chili gives the drink a subtle warmth and ads a lightly spiced aftertaste.

Macarn was founded in 2016 by the couple Camilla and Jan Kruse Hansen. Originally, the plan was to create a series of organic dressings and sauces, but a request for an organic soft drink series changed their direction. Macarn quickly became popular, so popular, in fact, that they struggled to produce sodas as fast as new orders came in.
Macarn did not have its own bottling plant but instead had their sodas produced by Ørbæk Brewery which was owned by Naturfrisk Group. This arrangement made it difficult for Kruse Hansens to fulfill last-minute customer orders. This lead to the sale of Macarn to Naturfrisk Group in August 2019. Jan Kruse Hansen simultaneously became a co-owner of Naturfrisk and took on a position as sales and marketing manager. However, he left the company after a few months.
After selling Macarn, Camilla and Jan Kruse Hansen considered several possibilities, including the production of candy and beer. However, they eventually returned to the soft drink market with a new organic series called Øndlings. Whether they will introduce an Øndlings-Cola remains to be seen.
