Romanian Kola Tonic is certainly a unique drink. Is it even a cola or is it rather a cola flavoured tonic water? I am undecided but unlike most colas this drink actually contains real kola.

Kola Tonic is a craft soda made by Kofi Ti (“coffee tea”) in Romania. The company started out by making mixers and ready-to-drink teas and coffees with their own import of quality spices from around the World.

In 2018 they added Kola Tonic to the portfolio. As a cola it stands out in the crowd as it doesn’t contain caramel color and therefore is not brown/black but instead yellow-ish like a beer.

Another unique feature is the presence of cinchona bark (quinine) which is the basis of tonic water.

For the Kola Tonic her task was to coin its complexity in taste – with kola from Guinea, cinchona bark from Ecuador, cinnamon from Sri Lanka, anise from China, cloves from Madagascar, and cane sugar from Colombia – in one simple expression.
